the one big thing you need to get used to is increasing the pixelate values will make for a smaller exported image, so what you see on the pixatool screen, you'll need to adjust what you imagine the actual size'll be on finish (demonstration here)

Love the color palette so much! I think the character is very easy to read, but the rest not so much. I think you need to focus on separate the foreground, middleground and background with both contrast in values and colors. Hope I didn't overstep my boundaries by making an edit
