FEAR OF FEAR is one of my all time favorite films and imo one of Fassbinder’s greatest achievements. Margit Carstensen was never better, and the use of Leonard Cohen’s songs is breathtaking. Double feature it with WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE and cry for weeks.
“That’s all well and good, but this Fassbinder fellow never made a mid life crisis socialist melodrama, did he?!”
He did! MOTHER KÜSTERS GOES TO HEAVEN is one of his most underrated films, and beautifully radical in such a personal way. Plus a proto-CLUE ending.
