DAY 13: SELKIES
In Scottish mythology, selkies or selkie folk meaning "seal folk" are mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. They are found in folktales and mythology originating from the Northern Isles of Scotland

Vietnamese woodblock folk prints often feature historical figures, social commentaries and popular folktales. This print depicts the wedding march of a rat couple and their guests, all nervously hoping the big cat will leave them alone.

One of my favourite folktales is 'The Mermaid of Zennor'. It's a Cornish tale which tells about a mermaid who falls in love with Mathey Trewella, the best singer of the parish. The couple disappears and are never seen on land again.

King Arthur's Knights were once rescued from a terrible fate when they became lost in a fog drenched swamp travelling back towards Camelot, by a strange white lion, a creature of the fairy folk of Wales, the Tylwyth Teg. Art self, for Wrexham folktales.

#Writers, are there any folktales or lore in your WIPS?
Umbriel is the last Earth Mother (and would've certainly been killed with the other Earth Mothers if the aristocrats of Panagea knew how to manufacture oxygen without trees). She's considered a folk tale until her return.
WALKING TREE The Banyan tree, Ficus benghalensis, has uncanny aerial roots that anchor the tree to the ground and look like limbs so it famously looks like it is walking; ghost shield in it in Bengali folktales 🎨Bangladesh; Botanic Gardens, Durban #FolkloreThursday
