The #SundayFishSketch brief this week was for a fish that you hadn’t heard of before.
In my reading up of Chondrichthyes I discovered Cladoselache fyleri who was a pre-Elasmobranch shark from the Devonian period.
So @FishBaseProject random function provided me the Yellow Spotted Catshark for this week #SundayFishSketch a quite cute little shark who like to hag out in costal South Africa, down to 500m deep. New species learn, I guess the challenge is completed! ;)
For this #SundayFishSketch I chose to do further research on an unknown cichlid. This is the Blunthead Chimba Red. Tropheus moorii is endemic to Africa’s Lake Tanganyika. 40 different color morphs are dispersed throughout the lake, ranging from dark green to flame red and yellow.
Two art challenges in one to cure artists block. #Sundayfishsketch - fish I’d never heard of. Viper dogfish. @albabbgg- draw this in your own style challenge. https://t.co/jJa7jvlx4F
For #SundayFishSketch my nieces requested a very specific sketch...
I've missed #SundayFishSketch alot this year, which makes me sad. But, I've managed to add a new comp anatomy sketch to my growing diagram of fish jaws! Hydrolycus scomberoides - from Davato & Castro 2012. #Anatomy #ComparativeAnatomy #Ichthyology #SciArt
An off-theme #SundayFishSketch. A series of #catfish. Colored pencil on the sides of a cardboard box. 4 species, 4 river basins, 4 continents. #Amazon #Mississippi #Mekong #Nile
Really challenging #SundayFishSketch this week, making a picture that fits within a random shape.
I went for something inspired by my own tank, a zebra danio swimming amongst rock and shell.
Today on #SundayFishSketch I am featuring one of the most exuberant fishes out there. This free hand drawing was heavly inspired by Steve Huskey's work, featured on his book 'The Skeleton Revealed'. Can you guess who is this? 1/3
Not Sunday, not finished, but here a half way through two week old #SundayFishSketch. #sharkweek2020
My #SundayFishSketch for #GobyWeek featuring Stiphodon atropurpureus the Blue Neon Goby, one of the many colorful little freshwater gobies!
A yellow watchman goby and its pistol shrimp friend for #SundayFishSketch’s #GobyWeek theme (and #InverteFest)
WIP paroon shark for #SundayFishSketch- despite the name, paroon sharks are not sharks at all, and instead very sizable catfish. I can say that it does somewhat resemble a certain filterfeeder...
Will be done by next Sunday- stay tuned.
I was so gutted when I realised that I had missed a shark themed #SundayFishSketch last week; I’m now thrilled that I have another chance this week.
I didn’t want to give you anything too obvious so here’s the mysterious Caribbean Roughshark.
A Natal shyshark/eastern shyshark for #SundayFishSketch this week. They live off the coast of South Africa and are critically endangered.
For #SundayFishSketch and #SharkWeek2020 I picked the Chain Catshark (Scyliorhinus retifer) which is a small shark that also happens to be biofluorescent!
My #SundayFishSketch submission for lesser known sharks is the nurse shark. The biggest one on record (2006) was over 10ft (308cm)! #SharkWeek2020
Fish names with a story for #SundayFishSketch this week. I’ve gone for the John Dory. No one knows why it’s called that for sure but it’s also called Peter’s fish as it’s fabled to bear the thumbprint of St. Peter on its side.
Due to its body shape (max length 11 m - record among bony fish), Regalecus glesne is better known as oarfish. Some dub it king-of-herring, believing it leads their schools. In Japanese folklore it is Jinja hime, a servant of Ryūjin and harbinger of earthquakes! #SundayFishSketch
