Leonardo’s drawings ranged across many subjects, but they were divided in the C16th. The Royal Collection is strong in anatomy, botany, maps, horses & studies for paintings. We have few of his inventions in engineering, which are now mostly in Milan.

Leonardo da Vinci was well off (not rich) and had horses and servants. He was probably gay and did not marry or have kids. I doubt he used cosmetics, but he was renowned for his love of fine clothes such as fur-lined cloaks and pink silk breeches.

500 years ago Leonardo Da Vinci died at Château du Clos Lucé, Amboise, France – many artists at that time had chosen France as their home. Da Vinci was an iconic artist whose influence lives on to this day!

I was a bit sceptical about the new 'portrait' of Leonardo that's been identified in the Royal Collection (LEFT). Face looked too young. But sent me a reworked version he made, with hair and beard (RIGHT), and I have to say it's pretty good. Bravo
