‘Inspection of the Black Sea Fleet in 1849’ by Ivan Aivazovsky (1886). An imposing image, but 5 years later in the Crimean War, most of these ships were trapped in Sevastopol by the Anglo-French fleet. Cannons were removed for city’s defence & most were scuttled to block harbour.

The Khan's Palace (Turkish: Han Sarayı) or Hansaray is located in the town of Bakhchysarai, Crimea. It was built in the 16th century and became home to a succession of Crimean Khans.
