There is in fact a magic brush I use! It's one of redjuice's the name is "水彩S2". I think it's just a modified paint tool sai watercolor brush but I use it for literally everything and it creates really great gradients like this. You can use it for both hard and soft edges

Ultra sharp and precise, carefully detailed pieces. My favorite is "Crossing" (top left), really hard to achieve that texture, and I love the sutil gradients to add depth.
