Walruses (Odobenus rosmarus) are a species of pinniped found in the Arctic Ocean & subarctic seas.
Their tusks aren’t just for fighting – they’re also used to aid locomotion, from hauling onto sea ice to stabilizing the walrus as they eat molluscs on the sea floor.
🐙🦑🐌🐚For #MolluscMonday, check out these cool #cephalopod illustrations. —Download them + many more illustrations of octopi, squid + cuttlefish species (+ other plants + animal illustrations!) here: https://t.co/D6jWPB8hgo via @BioDivLibrary #ArtScience #BioArt #MolluskMonday
Did you know a Walrus eats: clams, molluscs, worms, snails, soft shell crabs, shrimp and sea cucumbers!
They live mostly on the north pole but this one had a long journey to our country! Climate change? Or just lost? Who knows but it seems to be staying. https://t.co/Q7QLjLx443
#Littlestint #Calidrisminuta pair, probing for crustaceans & molluscs in the shoreline mud. Summer plumage. #Naturalhistoryillustration of these #waders done for a private client earlier this week. The cut-to-white one is thanks to the joys of photoshop.
