Regarding Elric: I'll always love Mike Moorcock because back on my 1st gig, his belief in me made me believe in me (shoutout to too). Pictured here: Cover art for Frederik Pohl's GATEWAY and Walter M. Miller Jr.'s A CANTICLE FOR LEIBOWITZ (shoutout to ). 2/14

Ever heard of fantasy writer Abraham Merritt? He influenced Lovecraft and his ‘Ship of Ishtar’ was hailed by Michael Moorcock as being among the one hundred best fantasy books.

Unknown to most, it was translated into Dutch and published in 1948 as ‘Het Schip van Ishtar’:

It’s fun to see how a hero you know translates into takes a look at two ways to play Michael Moorcock’s classic antihero Elric of Melniboné, using the Swords of the Serpentine rules: https://t.co/pG5j02Jt4j

Happy Birthday to the one and only Michael Moorcock!

Saw this while looking for a specific image of Corum from Micahel Moorcock's Eternal Champion series.

Some "Oriental" Amano. The 3rd image may be a little more popular, since it's his version of the heroine Ilian from Moorcock's fantasy novels, & was used as cover art for a Japanese translation of Count Brass.

Elric is a hugely complex character; not quite a tragic hero, not quite an anti-hero. Moorcock's concise style in describing him in his world adds to the sense that an elegant but intense narrative is being offered to the reader.

Yoshitaka Amano is probably most well known for his works on the Final Fantasy series. But in his early career, he also did cover illustrations for many of the Japanese versions of Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champions stories.

I really love his take on Elric of Melniboné.

The goblins are having a night off. So instead I give you 'The Sea Chariot of Rowernarc', a scene from Michael Moorcock's 'Phoenix in Obsidian'. Painted in 1977, it was one of 12 images commissioned by Big O to be published as posters & a calendar (Wizardry & Wild Romance 1978)
