It also lived alongside alongside similarly large dinosaurian predators Bahariasaurus and Carcharodontosaurus, the titanosaur sauropods Paralititan and Aegyptosaurus, crocodylomorphs, bony and cartilaginous fish, turtles, lizards, and plesiosaurs. Artwork by Davide Bonadonna.
This is one of those instances where you can add extraoral tissue to plesiosaurs. There is no reason why this and several other #plesiosaurs did not have “lips”. #paleoart #sciart
BTW... when you think about reptiles where it is very difficult to imagine any considerable amount of extraoral tissue (‘lips”), you think about many #plesiosaurs! Detail of the VERY unfinished head #paleoart #sciart
Did you know that ichthyosaurs & plesiosaurs have differently shaped vertebrae because they swam in different ways? They’re different because ichthyosaurs swam by moving their tails from side to side. Plesiosaurs used flippers to swim, so did not need vertebrae the same shape.
Plesiosaurs were long-necked marine reptiles that disappeared alongside the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period. This Jurassic Plesiosaur flipper is 150-155 million years old! The flipper would have helped our creature to practically 'fly' through the water.

Do you own one of the most significant volumes ever published on #paleoart? It's called All Yesterdays (and is by me, John Conway and C. M. Kosemen), and it's still available: https://t.co/2YGvwULGbH #dinosaurs #pterosaurs #plesiosaurs #palaeoart #art #animals #fossils

A series of plesiosaur #paleoart for #FossilFriday: Jurassic marine species Attenborosaurus and Plesiosaurus, and the coastal/freshwater adapted Leptocleidus. It's very cool to think some plesiosaurs would be visible in rivers, lakes and estuaries.
