Did this as a stylistic experiment. Almost entirely done with a non-anti-aliased (just aliased?) brush. I'm liking the "dry" look, and it makes coloring almost a joke!

The most font is the antialiased screen font (not printed), sans serif - Second best is also sans serif.

Without anti-aliasing, the best to read font is serif.

i think i've found a better way to deal with gradients with limited colors. pixel/hash brush in 3 different values, posterize into 3, and then it's easy to wand and fill just 3 colors as the aliased edges became hard pixel edges instead.

Compare the amount of unneeded colors Dedede has compared to Mario in SMRPG

Both look as detailed but the 2nd one uses its palette a lot more smartly than the anti-aliased mess the first one is

And yes, I've heard the comparisons with SMRPG and DKC

One thing you'll notice in those games is how smaller the palette is for them, so they look super detailed without looking antia-aliased

As well as the lack of outlines that make them blend better with the background (2/3)
