More paintings from the North Ayrshire Art Collection, these are by #Irvine artist Jim Collins. He worked in #shipyards until June 1989, but has been painting and drawing all his life. His work is surrealist and links to memories of the shipyards.

Capt James Crawford built the Garrison in 1745 as barracks for the officers of the “Royal George”.
Today, it houses the Museum of the Cumbraes.

Day 18 of our North Ayrshire advent calendar is the #Clyde puffer 'Spartan', seen here at #Arran. Built by Hays Shipyard in 1942, it remained in service until 1974 & is currently owned by the Scottish Maritime Museum in #Irvine.

A meeting to protest over the violent dispersal of the 'Peterloo' rally in Manchester last month has got underway at Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. A troop of Hussars arrived in the town this morning from Ayr, having previously been in Paisley, but it doesn't look as if they are needed.
