'Tidal Tranquility'. Using acrylics, glazes & mark making tools, Carolyn develops layer upon layer of colors & shapes that, like nature, convey the mysteries of the intangible elements of wind, atmosphere, scent & movement.

I LOVE this painting. I patiently used multiple glazes to create a deep transparent effect.

A study of hands. The varnish has yellowed, but you can see the streaks of grey on the gesso - a technique of Rubens - it adds depth to sheer glazes. Opaque whites come forward, shadows recede (sheer darks).

Hi, I'm (Abigail) Markov, and I'm an experimental painter! I love color and unexpected details - working mostly in pigmented ink & acrylic glazes right now. ❤️❤️

Unreal! Take a look at the work of this week’s winner, Mackenzie Iddings! The Illustration major did this painting in her Illustration Media class where students were assigned to paint a photorealistic portrait using transparent acrylic glazes with gloss medium. The...!

Legacy and exchange of ideas feature in Marianne Nix's work. Combining photography, digital tools, traditional printmaking and oil paint glazes, Nix mixes it up in her paintings which are built up in layers by adding and removing.

I'm returning to this painting after letting it incubate for a little while. I find it so exciting to work on these pieces for several months, gradually building up glazes. I know that I have to give my paintings the time they need. I think of it as if I'm the Director of a film.

I’m experimenting with acrylics, layering glazes to create depth and using opaque layers of paint to make the form jump out. I’m wondering now if I should have included his logo.

This is how I work: building layer upon layer upon layer with glazes of oil paint, finding the areas in the painting where I need to shift the chroma, tone or saturation, varying the paint thickness between thin & impasto, each time the surface pigments become deeper & richer...

Wow! Here is the painting after a glaze of Red Oxide. I like the warmth that it brings to the canvas. Still not finished. More blue glazes in the sky and then coming back with opaque highlights. NC

The Cupola House is starting to emerge from the messy glazes! NC

Detail of the large narrative piece I’m working on. I feel it’s starting to have the intensity, Not there yet with other parts. I’m going to add subtle glazes of green (terra vert). Part of my portrait project.

Starting my next painting! Doing some experimenting with thin glazes of color. I’m liking the effect so far. Also bumped up the canvas size to 11x17. NC
