i have lots of experience with rpgmaker2003! its easy to get and relatively cheap, but there are other places you can find a free version. Its a little limited for specific actions but it does the job! I made some experimental stuff. the coding is just chronological scripting!

Same honestly, all we had back then were Etch A Sketch, Lite Brite and MS Paint with a shoddy mouse

Kids these days have it good with their cheap, amazing Clip Studio Paint, tablets and a plethora of tutorials at their disposal compared to our crappy "How To Draw Manga" books :P

Those ones are semi cheap, like 3 coffees ($9) for a headshot, 5 coffees ($15) for halfbody, adding simple colors would be 1 coffee ($3) for headshot and 2 coffees ($6) for halfbody. Additionally cahracter's on halfbody would be 2 coffees per character.
