Kyra headshot! (this is the best snout I've drawn in my entire life I swear) I'm quite happy with the result to be honest, especially the way I used the colors and values.

I have a blog now! 😃

Check out my tutorial, on how I build my up my values. I explain how I get from a sketch to a greyscale painting, that is ready for color.

Quick studies I did today for a larger painting. Working out the composition and colouring and values.

Here's a process for one of my drawings. This one was experimental because I drew it in black and white initially and got to focus on values. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

More of this... it’s good practice for controlling values.

When you study from life/photos, you need to design your values.

Don't just copy values without thinking. Realize that you can push and pull things to express different messages in your work. This should happen even in studies.

Sometimes I like to work in grey scale to work out the tonal values... Hellboy 2 digital panting 🖤

And bam! Testing values. I loved to do this, to be honest. It's funny to do and is fast. I loved the mob scene, to me is the best actually!

Some for change! My demonish I use to paint way too cliche and dramatic pictures with 😝 I do enjoy drawing her! I'm trying to learn how to paint in greyscale and work on values.

Third image of the set, this was the first using a reference without posterizing it, a lot harder to see the values. Vegetation is giving me some trouble

I can’t really seem to grasp how to grayscale and the values.

I love love love when i really get into painting and adding depth and values. Trying to paint a bit more and put my knowledge of light and shadows into something. Here's a bit of where I'm at atm. :/

And a sneak peak at a value practice thing I'm doing, trying to get better at values.

A little morning painting in my studio! I haven’t given up on this 16x20 peanut wagon piece. I’m actually liking the ‘feel’ of it quite a bit. Trying to create that feel of depth through values. No name for this painting yet - any ideas? NC

"Queen of Hearts"

Black Thumb sketch on artist proof.

I've started to incorporate oil paints into the Black Thumb sketches to get a little more control, and a greater range of values. Though I need to experiment with different whites, as titanium is a bit too cool.

Line art done! Roughly blocking in colors and values. (How many progress pics is too many progress pics?)

Also, thank you for the ship name: Feneria.

May I repeat: FENERIA.

I've been going through some of old photoshop files and trying to figure out how i could improve them by doing quick overpainting sessions. here's a pirate i made a few years ago. I didn't want to make a complete overhaul, just some small tweaks to the gesture and values.
