I realized another mistake I commonly make as I draw a character. That is to make the background just as visually appealing as the character itself. Sometimes it works out, but for the most part, it kinda makes the picture look too busy, thus losing the appeal to draw the viewer.

If you're up for something moderately difficult, you could try animating Gazer from MGE.
Something where her tentacles are moving a bit, maybe a kind of POV shot with all of her eyes looking at the viewer.
