A quick look at how I usually draw.

Start with an very rough sketch to give an idea of the pose, framing, energy, etc. This can go through several passes, sometimes 4+, but always loose.

Then tighten down, with a focus on anatomical accuracy and my stylization.

Then finalize.

Timelapse of the painting process! With portraits, sometimes I like to trace the image for a loose sketch first to accurately mark the original features, then hide the reference image and redraw it several times to get the stylization and exaggeration I want.
