I took a similar route months back when i began to learn modeling with this, overmodeled the og ce for porortions with vertex snapping then went from there. By no means is it good. But i still wont use it for anything other than renders.and animstions.

Since skinning is so boring, I wrote an auto-skinning script: you only mark a couple of important loops and put a few rings around body features. Script then generates a skeleton, fits it to the pose and assigns per-vertex weights. Not boring anymore!

Here's a comparison to show how much the lighting artists transformed Vagrant Story into a painterly work of art despite it being a PS1 game.

This is the same environment with and without vertex colors. Look how the artists managed to simulate buildings being deeper underwater!
