The Burgess Shale, 508 million years ago. A huddle of Canadaspis perfecta cling to the side of a small muddy slope, avoiding the gaze of larger predators.

Inspired by a diorama from the Seodaemun Museum (thanks )

WIP of a Monty plate for Truncated! I’m planning on doing a few of these at 18x24 for other proboscideans. Within, I tried a few new rendering styles in illustrator and photoshop.

I might delete this in a bit since it’s not really on brand for this account, but here’s a bit on my own paleoart. My particular niche is extinct birds - most of my non-avian dinosaur art is a bit loosey goosey, whereas with birds I strive for more accuracy.

Today's Day 18: Caturday.
Working with extinct animals, its sometimes hard to imagine how the species would have looked in life . The work of paleoartists such as this drawing by Mauricio Anton provide an insight into these amazing big cats (Smilodon)

New 'holy-grail' pterosaur paper by Jean-Michel Mazin and Joane Pouech announcing a new ichnotaxon, Rhamphichnus. That's right: we finally have non-pterodactyloid pterosaur tracks, and textbooks need rewriting. Yes. (My of it below). https://t.co/wSLSwvdfHV

Time for another Fossil Fracas related update for Truncated:

My Long Wall of Proboscideans is full of all sorts of bizarre characters. Eventually I’m planning on characterizing every species.
