Hrrmm... I guess they overdid it a bit. Though the difference in voice actors plays a significant role in what could otherwise be chalked up to Ramba letting himself go and eating a lot during his stay in the desert. Hence why Hamon looks... identical.

Bitterthorn is one of the few edible plants growing in the desert.
If you can endure it's hard skin and chewy flesh and prickly seed then you can truly appreciate how unbearably tart and bittersweet it is.
