People aim to hate dither to try put down some game systems in comparisons/discussions, but, it is a very smart tool to blend shades and create smart textures. Strong machines that's handle tons of colors on the screen use it too.. it's an artist tool, a good example:

Love me some dithering in mah games. Sometimes I see people complaining about it, but in pixel art is a good way to create depth, blend colors, add textures and simulate transparencies. It's an art in itself for limited color palettes that deserves recognition, not hate

Wonder how well dithering does here.
Anyhow, more of 's Fech the Ferret for an Art event in the Discord Server.

Will upload to my site soon for higher quality.
Also Time-lapse coming soon.

I love this dither effect, faces have different expressions depending on how far away you are.

Bonus dithered version from when I was trying to compress a minute long gif in photoshop and forgot the settings were still active lol

One thing that is worth more exploration is an error diffusion technique that isn't based on a simple scanline. On the left is left-to-right scanline, on the right first I run through with random jumps, and then apply a second pass with left-to-right, to avoid dither patterns.

I have a 7-color e-ink screen arriving tomorrow, so I'm experimenting with custom color dithering techniques. Here is Subscapes reduced to a 7-color, 600x448px paletted image.

While it's on my mind, I'd love to see modern re-releases of old genesis/snes games include a dither-blend filter of sorts just to blend single pixel dithering as a lot of games used it for tansparencies/shadows. The effects are really cool when blended.

And this is the early sketch of the same part of the background. One of the ideas was to make the clouds in those deep, dark colours, but that made the background feel very tight and... almost claustrophobic.

Also heavy dithering doesn't work for me at all.

Excessive Dithering & AA does wonders for my more realistic portraits -- When you're working with a limited palette especially dithering is a blending delight (Though my first love will always be Anti-Aliasing)

For some reason during 's Miitopia, my Mii decided to take dither into a back corner and show off this hair that they apparently have???? then took it off and never had it on again??? what an experience

I can't help but mess around with dithering every once in a while.
"Screenspace" shadows with dithering, but I don't really know how to call it. Sticky screenspace?

Looking at 's posts and thinking how all this dithering would look in an old CRT monitor.

I know PC monitors aren't as blurry as a TV, but still...
