One such creator was Takashi Murakami, one of the pioneers of "superflat" - a style known for vivid color, flat shading, and chaotic, organic forms.
@y2k_aesthetic Much of western y2k's fascination with Japan came from its reputation as a hi-tech nation - a perfect match for a design aesthetic with tech as its forefront.
The western "anime boom" of the late 90's was also well underway - its "cool factor" influenced y2k-era design and ads.
