Page art: Proust wrote his enormous novel, À la recherche du temps perdu, by hand, in bed, and in these small notebooks.
He edited furiously, and often added long lengths of additional text to the pages. His beloved housekeeper - “mon chéri Céleste” - called them ‘paperoles’.
