Shortly after arriving in Paris, Vincent started painting flower still lifes. Why? To practise using different colours and brushstrokes. He also hoped that the subject would sell well. Which of these three would you like on your wall? Read more: https://t.co/oPBtph18CQ

Transcribing the fleeting effects of light and atmosphere using distinct brushstrokes of brilliant color, Monet creates a balanced composition repeating the blues, greens, yellows and whites in both the man-made and natural surroundings.

A great work by Ilya Repin, who painted only from life. His portraits stand out as realistic and life-like, yet they are so far beyond of being photographic (just look at the brushstrokes). Art historians refer to him as the ‘Master of psychological portraits’.

Morisot’s philosophy was to paint light & dissolve colour into component parts for the eye to mix. Critics have described this as feathery brushstrokes but that is to miss her goal. The Psyche Mirror (1876), Woman with a Fan (1876), Tureen & Apple (1877) & Summer (1878)

btw if you've ever wondered why my digital paintings take so long and why i charge so much for them, it's the fur/hair. all of my painted fur is done with singular brushstrokes with a simple round brush and it can take me an hour or two just to detail fluffy tails or poofy hair

Portrait # 3 is En'ya, my OC. Decided to try a slightly different style of brushstrokes based off of my favorite artist @/demianasche . Also experimented with his eye-color. Which do you prefer, Black or Grey? comment and lmk.

DeCamp layered thick impasto next to fine brushstrokes, painting textures: the ruffled curtains, the seamstress’s blouse, and the table objects and reflections, all painted in luminous shades of white and grey.

Some detail shots of my latest piece, Darkspire! Something I continually struggle with as a painter is how much detail to include in my pieces. At what point am I applying brushstrokes beyond what are needed to communicate my intentions for the piece?

This massive antique post-impressionist seascape hangs over my desk. It has a bit of damage but was a steal at $5 from the flea market. I’m forever in awe of those bold brushstrokes in the water. It’s like the painting is dancing. (Close up)
