I tweaked mine to be a little close, it fades out at the edges by distance from camera, the dark fading out first. I added a high frequency ripple to the light one.

I also tweaked the transparency so items are a little visible below the water then fade.

is a pretty game even 15+ years later, low-res BG images aside! With Debug Mode's free-cam, I can get angled shots without using Dolphin's own camera, so things like fog and culling work correctly.
