I nicked this pale shade of purple for shadows long time ago (don't remember where tho), but never used it. It gives pleasant soft look to shadows.
Then, I add the main light source! In this case, his face is mainly in shadow so I put a purple multiply layer over everything to tone the colors down. I then added the blood and more detailed shadows. Again, this is just the sketch so I'm not worried about it being perfect.
Every little detail matters in telling the story of the character, even its silhouette -- it should be easily identifiable even in the shadows.

@VGArtAndTidbits @ChaosArgate But it isn't from Adventure. That art was made for Advance. Adventure's art was a lot more loose and lanky and curvy and lacked those shadows. Advance's art style is a refined version of the SA1/SA2 style.
