I am well are localization shouldn't, and often can't, be a 1:1 perfect translation- but sometimes the decisions made baffle me

I'm a manga letterer, so I'm more involved with the design side of localization, but I'm slowly making strides to improve my Japanese. I've gotten to lend my talents to some cool stuff, though. :)

I decided to look up Chinese localizations of A3 and... Ooh, they got exclusive cards 👀

First 3 images: TW/HK/Macau version (and did they just choose the 3 most popular boys to have cards lol)

Last image: CN version

All images from official sources!

Some people really think certain aspects of Japanese media must be adapted to their liking just so they can enjoy it. Just because you feel entitled to it, localization is not a right.

While we're on Sekai Project, they launched a KS campaign in 2015 to fund the porting and localization of Witch Boy Magical Piece by Rosemary House.

There was 0 advertising, they reached 44% of the 57k goal and never talked about it again.

Conclusion: Sekai Project sucks.

A few years prior, English publisher Sekai Project announced the localization of another Korean game: November Boy by Team Anago.

But because we can't have nice things, Sekai Project reported being slowed down by "programming issues", then never mentioned the game again.

I have the same problem with Nintendo localization team, this song is called "KK Gamelan"(Which is a traditional music ensemble from Indonesia) in Japanese, Dutch, Chinese, and Korean version. But it's called K.K. Marathon in everywhere else, why??

The second ever BL game English localization was Enzai - Falsely Accused by Langmaor and published by JAST USA in 2006, followed by Absolute Obedience by the same creator.

Both games sold very badly and only turned profit around 2014. There were many factors involved.

something interesting i noticed with the chinese localizations of american webtoons is that they retain bolded and italicized words, something you hardly ever see in a webcomic originally written in chinese

Can anyone give a rational explanation as to what supposedly makes the current skin color changes which are so common in localization like Emiya Alter different from the time they did it in 4kids One Piece?

Why have these suddenly become the “politically correct” decision again?

The Mana series also has Sahagin. Some older localizations apparently name them Water Thug.

All day, every day.
