I paint by soft shading indivudal portions of lineart and making sure I'm aware that dark shadows and light shadows create distinct parts. If you get this effect it means you can easily paint out the line art later. It's cell shading with extra steps.

I love these Naval designs. Since everyone else is throwing down their suggestions for Navals I figure I'll give mine. A shadowslayer naval would be so nice. My commission from tyronius fits it so well.

Very proud of how shadows look in this animation. If the series continues as planned, any anomalous rings (like this one or even less complex) will be rare: maybe every 10-20 animations. But I think my upcoming Glitch Up series will have more.

Another example of how its done.
I generate with the AI (midjourney) many parts and shapes that may be interesting, I cut them and prepare them to later make the composition in photoshop. Some overpaint, shadows, lights and that's it. 🙃
