Biggest hurdle for me has been the level graphics, and after I checked how Mega Man games on Game Boy look like, I came to realization that perhaps I'm having so much trouble with the levels is because I've been trying to do parallax scrolling

Ah, I did love Krakout.
One of the best breakout games on the C64 IMHO.
(I'm in two minds which was better: this or TRAZ. The core TRAZ game-play is excellent, but the levels were too hard. I found TRAZ much more fun after I'd made my own levels.) 😁
