Valverde's most famous work was "Historia de la composicion del cuerpo humano", first published in Rome, 1556. The original illustrations were most likely drawn by Gaspar Becerra, and the copperplate engravings are thought to have been carried out by Nicolas Beatrizet.

As a boy, the artist Walter Crane enjoyed decorating his books with watercolor illustrations. When his father, portrait artist, Thomas Crane saw this. He did not punish the boy but introduced him to William James Linton, the head of one of the best printing & engraving companies.
Gotta zoom in on those engravings. Here's Arabelle, the elf longhunter. You'll see her again soon bc I like drawing her chaps and you can't see it in this piece. #ArtistOnTwitter #OC
@flamingeleven Kokoro just floats there silently, she looks back over the shoulder of Chiri to see the engraving on the tree that she had made. She taps her cheek, and keeps staring at it.
"Hmm... That's cute."
Is all she says. She lets out a slow exhale.
Leonardo used oils and a thick undercoat of wax which caused the colours to run, and both frescoes were ultimately abandoned. The closest approximation we have to Leonardo’s painting is Rubens’ drawing, based on an earlier engraving that may have used the cartoon as its source.
Basic color laid in. Gonna add a bit more detail and color variance to make it all interesting. Gotta add some call outs too. Her illus will put her amongst her people, so the engravings on the medallion need to be thoughtful so I can have a visual connection. #atomhawkreturn
It’s Monday on Twitter, so here’s St Michael vanquishing Satan in an oil painting by Raphael and his studio, an engraving by Nicolas Beatrizet, and a stained glass window in St Michael’s Church, Charleston SC, by the Tiffany Studios.
One of my favorite prints by German artist Albrecht Dürer, "Knight, Death, and the Devil." The engraving draws from Psalm 23; "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil".
John Singleton Copley, btd 1738, foremost American colonial portraitist, taught himself to paint by copying Italian engravings, producing 'Return of Neptune' at age 15! He rarely did mythological subjects later, but 'Venus & Cupid' is a wonderfully warm study of mother & child
Love this 1753 engraving of Manila because it captures the scale of the city beyond the walls (extramuros). Bagumbayan, on the lower right hand side of the map, is the site of Luneta/ Rizal Park today.
