Dezaki had a very distinct signature style & technique, with his most famous being the "postcard memories". This is a stylized freeze-frame technique with a hand-painted vibe that continues to be an influence to animation today.

I wondered what was Dezaki's first piece to feel genuinely "Dezakian", and this might be the one. His cinematic grammar isn't fully mature yet - no triple takes, postcard harmonies or split screens - but he already masters composition, coloring, editing and, most of all, *drama*

Ce plan hommage à ({et à son acolyte dans le 1er épisode de 🥊, me fait penser à chaque fois que la mise en scène du maître manque cruellement dans les productions d’aujourd’hui.

more dezaki faces because I LOVE THEM, in both his old and new works. his works from 70s-80s had a softness to them, and then from late 80s-90s he started adding crisp shading, extra lashes, and defined face features. I love both.

1973: Ace wo Nerae!/Aim for the Ace!
The iconic shojo tennis series directed b Osamu Dezaki. Another all-time influential classic that remains without any sort of official English release. Who knows, maybe one day, but I highly doubt it'll happen.

Directed by Osamu Dezaki in 1982, this space opera surely influenced a lot of iconic anime we've come to love over the years.

Nishikubo Mizuho's episodes of Gold Lightan are always such a treat. They feature some of the most striking and mesmerizing visuals in an already overall pretty show.
They also make it very apparent just how much Nishikubo got influenced by Dezaki.

Sukeban Deka also got an animated OVA adaptation that is more faithful to the manga and its done in a very Dezaki-esq style.

Specifically, the main antagonist who's basically an old school shoujo protagonist that's secretly a serial killer.
