Back to #SundayFishSketch with a literal take on the theme "Fish Battle Royale" - the battle between native lake trout + invasive sea lamprey in the #GreatLakes is one time when it's accurate to refer to your opponent as a "bloodsucker" (lampreys are cool in their native range!)
People may not be the only ones interested in the groundhog’s report today. Adult sea lampreys migrate from the larger lakes into streams for spawning in the spring – a change that certain Great Lakes fish, like lake trout, are probably ready for sooner rather than later!
Here are four monsters I drew based on sketches I did in 2015. Their names are Syphang, Cragzilla, Flambape and Splaylien.

The 3 main influences were the flu virus, a lamprey mouth and a dog’s squeaky ball toy…you can see the ball texture in a later concept. These are the refs I used from back then ⬇️

Freshwater eels aren't native to the US Pacific Coast. All the eels in N. America come from the Sargasso Sea, & swim in waters that empty into the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico.
There are lots of lampreys on the W. coast. But no native eels.
But they wanted some. Like you do. 2/8

Roi is cocky and competitive lamprey merman who's passionate about his hobbies and loves attention. Even though he's (disturbingly) aware of his physical attractiveness, he's not really sure who he is and is afraid of being judged.
