We're thrilled that JMW Turner is on the new £20 note! We celebrated Turner's work in a major exhibition last year, and are excited to bring this fabulous piece out in July as part of our 'Views of Yorkshire' exhibition!

JMW Turner always wanted a legacy so the public would remember him. The nation got his paintings & sketch books. Also his nudes. He wanted a statue. Little could he have believed that 169 years later he would appear on the new £20 note! Let’s celebrate the brilliance of Turner!

This 1792 painting by JMW Turner is an evocative and highly romanticised depiction of the Avon Gorge. The building atop the gorge is the 1766 built Clifton Observatory. At this time it was a former windmill which was damaged in a storm.

Thought I'd share my painting of a moonlit seascape (8" by 10"). Inspired by an estuary I visited and works from JMW Turner and Pissaro's Boulevard Montmartre at Night
