We have too many to count, but, for today, as so often, we'll go with the artwork of Peter Orlando Hutchinson of Sidmouth (1810-1897). There's masses more where these came from.

These beautiful glazed earthenware tiles were designed by William De Morgan, a founding member of the Arts and Crafts Movement. His designs were often inspired by nature, featuring birds and animals.

As the natural world is the theme of we are highlighting a few art works depicting some rare species. ZSL is taking action to conserve these (and other) animals - pangolin, Chinese giant salamander, greater one-horned rhino.

Elizabeth Blackwell’s A Curious Herbal' is our day 2020 choice. Produced between1737 to 1739 the book has an unusual story attached - Elizabeth only produced these beautiful plant illustrations to raise money to release her shady husband from debtor’s prison!

The RHS Lindley Library holds an important collection of 16th and 17th century herbals, including a copy of Pietro Andrea Gregorio Mattioli’s Kreutterbuch (1586) which features hand-coloured illustrations.

This spectacular Red Roman Nectarine was painted by the artist William Hooker. The RHS Lindley Library holds a number of original 19th century botanical illustrations, which were commissioned by the RHS to support early plant identification.
