The ‘Magic Lantern’ was once the cinema of the 17th, 18th & 19th centuries.

It was once as common in homes as 4K home theatre is today.

The tin box with a chimney was a vital component that made up the art of seeing pictures 'move'.

Another trick for strong panel composition is to think in terms of foreground, middle ground, and background, instead of *just* foreground and background.

Look at how Milt Caniff creates depth in his panels with this technique.

Howe's compositions are so good. One of my all time favorite scenes from the Silmarillion, rarely has good art (imo) because they always take 1 metaphor and blow it out of proportion (Morgoth looming like a mountain or something) but Howe's "fingolfin's challenge" is amazing

At first, my idea was to paint this series in gouache but I was so hesitant and opposed me so much resistance that I began to postpone them indefinitely. So with the "excuse" of doing a rough color test, I started to compose my values and colors.
