KNM-ER 1470 is one of the most iconic fossils in human origins. Found in 1972 it remains an outlier: brain size larger than other large-toothed hominins. Today scientists attribute it and a handful of other fossils to Homo rudolfensis. #hominin #paleoanthropology
@Rhari My favourite hobby is Collecting Antiques, Raw gemstones and Fossils. In particular I've always loved classical violin music and one day hope to own a beautiful well loved instrument from eras ago.. 🎻
The Amud 1 skull was one of the first that I chose when I started drawing fossils more than 25 years ago. Today this ancient individual is more scientifically interesting than ever, at an ancient epicenter of population mixture. #FossilFriday #hominin #paleoanthropology

Dakotaraptor was a 5-6 m (16-20 ft) long dromaeosaur from the Hell Creek Formation. Despite being too large to fly, its fossils showed quill knobs, suggesting the animal was feathered.

To reconstruct the sabretooth Lokotunjailurus I started by sketching the fossils at the National Museums of Kenya in Nairobi. Then I combined sketches and photos to draw the articulated neck and skull. Finally I painted the animal killing a hapless Hipparion. @fossilfriday
Unfortunately don't have enough time to chime in with any realistic Ubirajara palaeoart, so I thought I'd draw a quick cartoony one instead.
Oh and stop publishing on unethically-sourced fossils please. #UbirajarabelongstoBR https://t.co/aEHAuVc999
#OnThisDay in 1908, Boule presented his study on the specimen known as the La Chapelle Neanderthal to Académie des Sciences. He argued that Neanderthals were a separate, extinct species of human relative. #fossils
Ultra project offers a good example of making ghost type fossils. Also thanks to SwSd showing the case of tragic incomplete recovery. Basically these are symbiotic creatures got separated thus the first stage can only be consciousness that is desperately to meet the other part.
@TwistedLeopard Ty so much for the chance! I wish I had a full ref but this is Peiko, a t-rex and hyena hybrid who likes pizza and fossils!

In prehistoric times, it swam on the sea floor, eating plankton. Its fossils are sometimes found.

#WIP Found out #fossils can sometimes become "Agatized" or "Opalized" wich means they turn into Agate and Opal, and this gave me the idea of fossil pokemon with Agate/Opal elements. This two are based on the Doedicurus and Elasmotherium

In reality, these fossils do not belong to Triceratops. They are actually 3 osteoderms from Denversaurus and a squamosal horn from Stygimoloch/Pachycephalosaurus. The squamosal in particular is identical to the back spikes on Knight's Agathaumas, which is what really convinced me
