some quick painting practice, mainly hair/eyes. i made a lot of mistakes 😅 but it was good practice still. i need to use stronger outlines i think, there's not much contrast. also picking colors for hair and eyes is hard ... i weirdly think i understand cooler colors better ...

@BoxOfWant sorry for the low res, im not at my desk, but like here — i set the lineart layer to multiply and started painting flats bemeath, and now the lines are totally lost in the colors. all the clean definition is gone and I can’t tell if it’s like a lineweight issue, a contrast issue

The two brothers. When I looked at this, I didn't notice how much they really contrasted each other until now. Jigs has the messy hair and wrinkled clothes, whereas Neto is more up kept with his appearance. From that context alone, I'm already told quite a bit about them...
By the way, speculars can touch cast shadows, like here under the nose. This will often lead to a hard edge due to value contrast. Sargent knew this and used it to his advantage!

A lot of people like to go ham with the sparklies, I like how mine looks with just a pinpoint of light and maybe just a lil gloss. I like to keep the contrast low but this is just a stylistic choice, all eyeballs are valid

Workin on her collar thingy. The highlight is actually a pale pink but that pops against the light blue. Lighter blue wouldn't contrast as well. Experiment and don't worry too much, life is an illusion
