Another thing you can do to sell the illusion, for your assets, is to add a "Stepped Interpolation F-Curve Modifier" to the animations. This will provide an extra bit of low fidelity.

Here's some more "style" tiles, not made by hand, but instead a product of sculpting, modifiers and compositing.

No deliberate control over each individual pixel placement, but lots of control over the whole process, I guess :)

Starting on a new outfit/character. First is a simple and clean rig for a short dress/skirt. Uses a few modifiers and some drivers, but no extra bones. Very easy to make, and handles all but the most extreme poses

Ah Interesting! Probably need to figure out how to get more loops in. Not easy trying to balance the weights with leg, pelvic, and waist bones. Sometimes covering them with smooth modifiers helps.
