Looking for the perfect ribbon for your gifts? This is the planetary nebula NGC 5189, looking like a giant and brightly coloured ribbon in space.

#HubbleClassic With some imagination, this nebula looks like a glass-blown holiday ornament wrapped in a ribbon. Called NGC 5189, the intricate structure is actually glowing gas expelled by a dying Sun-like star. https://t.co/2DIpbnUGGl
Check out this amazing image of interacting galaxies NGC 5394/5 taken recently with the Gemini North 8 metre telescope on Hawaii. https://t.co/GW9ow1cJ5E Roughly half a trillion stars wrapped in a beautiful cosmic dance.
“I want to paint a starry sky;
for the night has hues of the most intense
violets, blues, greens
and forget-me-not brilliance.
It is obvious that putting little white dots
on the blue-black canvas is not enough
to paint a starry sky.”

#Today Chandra is studying a double #star system within star cluster NGC 3603! The #environment here is not as serene as it looks. Violent stellar #winds and fierce UV radiation have carved out a vast cavity in the surrounding material, giving us a clear view of the star cluster.
