It's been a little while of planning and preparation but I finally have a work pipeline in place for converting our game's pencil art into 32-color final sprites. Here's the first one, a basic idle loop. I want the final to look good but be easy for me to draw by myself.

I love sprites, but I think it's just the general direction of the industry and appealing to players outside the fighting game community. Kinda like with movies, I think a lot of people just generally don't take cartoony visuals as seriously and companies know that.

Another interesting bit in the design process was, that I got stuck a fair time on the style of the characters.
I wanted to let them feel like dark fantasy, but still work well with pixelart. So details needed to read clearly and that the sprites contrast well against the bg

Some more interesting things I saw while sprite editing

1.) Some of Hod's sprites lack the little shine in her bauble, namely her attacking ones.
2.) Netzach's sprites also lack the bauble, but I noticed his old dialogue sprite doesn't have it either.
3.) PHILLIPS HANDS ARE TINY
