@colinomicon @Clericalcleric With an example from my own work, you really want to consider where your light is coming from and how that will hit the shapes of the armour. In this one, the light is coming from above and is sunlight, so it casts a BRIGHT highlight on the top, and DEEP shadows below.

@KirbyEarthbound main thing tho is adding hard shadows. heres great example where you can se clearly defined shapes and depth thanks to the use of hard and soft shadows. tldr dont overuse airbrush
