Brilliant brilliant brilliant game, that Spy vs Spy. 👍
I don't think there was anything else quite like it on the C64. (Excepts Spy vs Spy 2 and 3.) It's almost the perfect two-player game. And they managed to make it real entertaining to play it as a one-player game too! 😁

Even the bosses and the 3D sections.. everything feels just about the same (but a ton prettier) after coming to it from the C64. But, while some sections are tricky here, on the C64 those same sections were sometimes just rage-quit tricky for me now. (Not so bad for young me.) 😁

So, if you were wondering "did anyone Shinobi this week?" I would say "yes, yes I did." 😁 I first played it, as a kid, on the C64. (I'm not sure I ever saw the arcade cab.) And I really liked it. The main platforming action was well designed, and the 3D bonus stages are fun. 😎

Starting in 1984, Epyx's "Summer Games" kicked off a successful run of olympiad-style competitive games for the The series continued yearly until 1988, with Winter and World Games being highlights.

The original is the most nostalgic for me though, which is your favorite?

Defender of the Crown is excellent on the C64. (I'm another one who prefers it to the Amiga version.) 😎 But I was never any good at it. I'd usually go down to one territory pretty quickly, then I'd have no chance. 😐 Now I can easyflash and cheat. So much easier that way. 😋

IIRC, there are some NTSC versions that, when played on a PAL machine, would kill you if any of the droids electric burst goes off-screen, into the border. 😮 Makes it just impossible to play. But, I love playing right through and seeing that ending on the C64. 👍

Aces of Aces has that polish to it that we'd come to expect from Accolade. The graphics, sound, and game-play were all top notch on the C64. I played it many times. I'd become quite good at all missions, so was just trying for a 'perfect' game. ie: maximum hits on all targets. 😎

Just finished Unhallowed by ported by onto the Classic spooky text adventure 👍My most dimwitted moment? Searching for ages for a torch only to realise some time later I could use the torch on my phone 😩 https://t.co/pQ58trZOZM

I'm actually not sure if I ever tried Gryzor on the C64. 🤔 ..It's on my list now. 😋 But I can tell you that, for sure, I did play Platoon, and it was glorious. (Damned hard, but I was a kid with too much time .. I was able to make it to the last level.) 👍

Looking at Lemon64, it sounds like Artic's World Cup Football really is buggy and awful. 😐

But I've always been of the opinion that Internation Soccer was always the way to go on the C64. 😁

World Class was certainly the best version as far as realism was concerned. We now had real-world golf courses on our humble C64. 😮 It doesn't get any better than that right? It's definitely the logical evolution of the game. And it's still solid. I just prefer the first one. 😁

Iridis Alpha is one of Jeff Minter's best shoot-em-ups on the C64. Fast, with many conflicting tasks to worry about, you really had to be in 'the zone' to be playing this effectively. And he seemed to have mastered his ability to throw sprites all over the screen with abandon. 😁

I put a ton of credits into the Karate Champ arcade game. The two-joystick controls was really cool once you got the hang of it. So I was surprised when someone was able to think up a way of getting just about as many moves out of a game on the humble C64. Saved me much money. 😁

I'll always have a soft spot for Staff of Karnath, beause it was one of the early games I had on the C64. 🕹️ Looking at it with older eyes, there are some things I think could be done differently. But it's still fun, and remains one of the better games in the Pendragon series. 👍

I really did love Ace of Aces on the C64.
(C64 screenshots attached.) 😎

Was curious to check out the Amstrad version, as that machine should be able to do this kind of game quite well. But, well, both the sound and graphics are a bit disappointing: 🤔

From left to right, the following versions of METAL GEAR: DOS, NES, MSX, C64. The MSX is clearly superior

Alcazar - The Forgotten Fortress (Activision, 1985) Played it on my CBS first, later on the C64.

Today's retro nostalgia is Staff of Karnath, the first in the Sir Arthur Pendragon series on the C64. From a game mechanics point of view, maybe not the best thing out there. But it was an early game for me, and I was willing to negotiate that maze to the obelisk again and again.

Released in 1989, Probe delivered an awesome conversion of Turbo Out Run on A fast rolling road routine and responsive controls make this a top racer, but the soundtrack absolutely steals the show!
