I finally watched the Ghibli film Pom Poko and loved it. It's all about tanuki, has a yokai parade, lots of references to Japanese folklore, and a nice message about looking after the environment.

just learned today that in japanese folklore, there's a yokai called the Amabie that emerged from the sea and said, "If disease spreads, draw my picture and show it to the ill, they will be cured."
