Maria's are certainly cute, though some of the expressions are a bit wonky. That's not exclusive to her though. In general, I feel like they got better the further into the story got. Chiru sprites like these seem pretty good compared to some of the Episode 1-4 ones.

this was the very first concept i had made for d-sides. originally, the designs were gonna stay recolours but the sprites themselves would have been drawn entirely. the stickman poses were the edits made on the 28th, when i first decided everyone having new poses would be cool.

Shoutouts to some of my fave enemy designs in the game. Despite not playing the remake, I can definitely tell the newer sprites lost some of the charm of the og despite all the bells and whistles.
