Y.G.Srimati’s paintings display themes from Indian epics. Greatly influenced by Gandhi, she participated in rallies for Indian Independence. Painting traditional subject matter was an expression of her nationalist sentiment. These paintings are from Metropolitan Museum.

The Indian artist Y. G. Srimati (1926–2007) was born in Mysore, southern India, and died in New York. As a teenager in the 1940s Srimati was swept up in the nationalist movement for an independent India. She was both an accomplished artist and a singer.

On top of the difference layer I do an overlay layer and I shade general idea of the light source, shading the characters/foreground/background independently. I use multiply for shadows and screen for highlights, but the highlights are mostly for hair and bounced light.
