I know the line you're talking about from the 1996 FUNimation English dub (I have no idea if it was kept in the 2005 redub). That ain't there at all in Japanese.

Okay, this is weird.

Apparently, the broadcast version playing on Japanese TVs looks noticeably better than the version Funimation is streaming.
