Same problem. My solution is to pencil first, then paint with gouache, and do the inking last. Not perfect, but you might dig it.

had to dig a bit to find examples since i haven't done this in a while, but i always found shading deeper shadows with black/really desaturated colours to work *really* well in digital colouring of pencil art.

The handmade/Bermejo rumor about Battinson's suit seems to be the most accurate one that came out. Mostly in the textures, and the suit not being skintight. I dig it. absolutely nailed this suit. Please just lemme see it in snow one day.
