Biggest question is if I try to find a good point to blend the strands into the braid (they use 2 different textures) or try to rebuild the whole braid as geometry (like the NB Male model does)

Unfortunately, Isanove's coloring approach after the first issue takes a turn for the worse. I don't know if its a deadline thing, but starting in the second issue, the texture effect on his colors gets so strong and noticeable to the point of being distracting.
