For reference. Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Tetsujin-28 debuted in 1956, and we mostly know it for being the first giant robot piloted by a remote control in japanese fiction. Tezuka's Astro Boy debuted in 1952, but it wasn't a giant robot tho. And then we had 1972 Nagai's Mazinger Z.

Working on this fanart is reminding me how much Tetsuya Nomura's work impacted my own. Between him and Yoji Shinkawa I learned so much about what I like to draw. They're possibly the two artists that got me the most excited to experiment with media and style.
