It's the 80th Anniversary of the first flight of my favourite aircraft today, the Avro Lancaster. Here's my recent painting showing seven brave young men setting off to war, not knowing if they'll return the following morning.

The (JPATS) was a 1994 USN /USAF program to acquire a new training aircraft. Beechcraft/Raytheon, with a modified Swiss Pilatus PC-9 Mk 2, the only turboprop in the competition won the contract. The plane was designated the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II. The contestants:

Stealth Fighter! One of my most played games on the C64. Loved the huge manual. I could get past the aircraft identification 9 times out of 10 by memory. The maps and keyboard overlay were brilliant. (Must work out a real C64 keyboard on the PC so I can use the overlay again.) 😁

10 years after he created Flash Gordon, Alex Raymond decided to volunteer for the US Marines in 1944.

He trained in Virginia then was posted on an aircraft carrier as a combat artist. He left San Diego for Hawaii, then Okinawa, Borneo, & finally Leyte. He drew the entire time:

The Vickers-Armstrong V-1000, was a 'still-born' jet-powered cargo aircraft, designed to meet a Royal Air Force requirement for strategic transport, to support its strategic bomber fleet, particularly the V-bombers. Based on elements of the Vickers Valiant, it was not built.😞
